Stephen Metcalfe MP is today celebrating International Women in Engineering Day by encouraging more women to join the sector and be the difference.
To mark International Women in Engineering Day the Royal Academy of Engineering has partnered with Becoming X and Amazon to celebrate pioneers in engineering and technology, with a new This is Engineering series to inspire the next generation to become engineers of the future.
The first three films of the series aim to raise the profile of women engineers and inspire more women to consider a career in engineering. These empowering films show that engineers all have different stories, their resilience has led them to careers where they make a difference as engineering heroes.
Entitled 'Engineering Heroes' the films are the first of a new This is Engineering and the series can be viewed at www.thisisengineering.org.uk/heroes
The films are important because women are still hugely underrepresented in engineering and technology today. Just one in ten (14.5%) engineers are women.
Stephen Metcalfe MP: “An inclusive economy and sustainable world cannot be built without engineering, therefore it is important we attract the best to help further mould the world into a better place.
On International Women in Engineering Day we celebrate the brave and brilliant woman engineers who are pioneers in their field and who push to solve the everyday problems, including the ones we can see and the ones we can’t. You can #BeTheDifference and join them in striving to build a better world for everyone.”
