Stephen Metcalfe, Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock, welcomes today’s Bill introduced by the Government to ban the use of wild animals in circuses for performance or exhibition.
The Wild Animals in Circuses (No.2) Bill will face its second reading in the House of Commons today (07/05/2019) and is expected to pass with wide spread support. The ban will apply to travelling circuses in England.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “Making wild animals perform for human pleasure has no place in modern British society.
Animals deserve to be in their natural environment and where exhibited in captivity done so exclusively for the preservation of the species and public education. This Bill is a long-time coming and I hope it passes with unanimous support”.
