The UK is a global leader in ocean protection with more than 38 per cent of UK waters in Marine Protected Areas and new Highly Protected Marine Areas. Internationally, the UK has also played an important role in conservation by securing the Global Ocean Treaty at the United Nations. The treaty commits all signatories to the "30 by 30" initiative - protecting 30% of the land and 30% of the sea. The UK has already achieved this goal and, last week, Stephen added his support to the campaign to ratify the Global Ocean Treaty.
