On 21 February, Stephen joined the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Microplastics and the Women's Institute to support their campaign to get fibre capture filters in washing machines. We’re increasingly hearing how microplastics are being found in the human body - in blood, hearts, lungs and even placentas. This is due to pollution of our water and food supply by microplastics. Synthetic clothes are one of the biggest polluters. Over 700,000 synthetic fibres can be released during a 6kg domestic wash. The technology for microplastic filters already exists and France and Australia have already legislated to mandate their introduction.
