Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, joins constituents in remembering the men and women who have given their time, and too often their lives, to protect and defend our nation and our freedoms.
First commemorated to remember those who lost their lives in the First World War, now we remember the ultimate sacrifice of those brave men and women who served in the Second World War, the Falklands War – which marks its 40th Anniversary this year, and the UK’s military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
On Saturday 12th November, Stephen was honoured to attend the Basildon Armed Forces and Veterans Breakfast Club’s Remembrance Breakfast at the Campanile Hotel Basildon.
Later, Stephen attended Orsett’s Remembrance Service and Basildon Borough Heritage Group’s “Forget Never, Oublier Jamais, Vergessen Niemals” Project which collaborates with Meaux in France and Heiligenhaus in Germany to highlight the vast impact of the First World War on our communities.
On Sunday 14th November, Stephen attended Stanford-le-Hope’s Remembrance Service to pay his respects.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “Every year, we must take time to remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms.
I was honoured to be invited to the Basildon Veterans Breakfast Club and to attend Orsett and Stanford-le-Hope’s Remembrance Services.”
