Stephen Metcalfe, Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock, recently opened New Life Wood, a new charity in Pitsea working to change lives by helping to relieve unemployment through wood recycling, training & day to day support to past offenders (23/03/2019).
New Life Wood are a new Christian charity that reduce landfill waste by recycling wood into sellable furnishings and objects. They operate a timber collection service throughout Southend & District, and across South Essex, collecting from both small building businesses and multinational building companies.
Through the support of local churches, New Life Wood provide 3-month work placement opportunities to those with a history of offending, mental health problems and others. The programme includes mentoring, employment skills & money management guidance. Past offenders can obtain certificates and the opportunity of a written reference to assist them in applying for permanent work.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “New Life Wood are an excellent new charity which truly combine community consciousness with environmental protection.
The support & work placements they provide offer past offenders a new start in life and helps reduce reoffending.
I am delighted to support them and encourage all building businesses across South Essex to call them on 07904 150180 to recycle unused wood”.
