Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, has today celebrated 73 years of the NHS.
Today Stephen Metcalfe MP joined residents and colleagues at Orsett Masonic Hall to celebrate 73 years of the NHS. To mark the occasion events took place throughout the day, including an act of remembrance, national toast, and afternoon tea.
During these unprecedented times, hospitals have cared for around 400,000 seriously ill coronavirus patients, including 100,000 admitted in January alone, along with millions more besides. Alongside this the NHS has been able to successfully roll out the biggest vaccination programme in health service history.
Her Majesty The Queen has awarded the NHS with the George Cross, recognising the fantastic efforts of healthcare workers, and everything they have done not only last year but since its inception.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “As we celebrate 73 years of our NHS, today is an excellent opportunity to pay tribute to all staff across the country who have been on the frontline dealing with the pandemic and those who have helped roll out our phenomenal vaccine programme.
I am delighted I was able to attend Orsett Masonic Hall to celebrate the occasion, marking the fantastic achievements made and remembering those we have lost.”
