Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, celebrated the coronation of the new King at the weekend and attended a number of local events to commemorate the occasion.
The coronation of King Charles III was a momentous event that continued 1,000 years of British history and tradition. To commemorate the occasion, Stephen helped to plant English oak trees at Gable Hall School, Hassenbrook Academy and Corringham Primary School on Friday 5 May. This was part of a national tree planting effort for the coronation and continues the success of The Queen’s Green Canopy which encouraged Britons to plant a tree for the Jubilee.
The local community also celebrated Charles’ coronation with a Picnic-in-the-Park at Westlake Park. Hosted by Bowers Gifford and North Benfleet Parish Council, there was live music, children’s entertainment, market stalls, vintage cars, a circus workshop and more. Stephen attended with newly re-elected councillor Craig Rimmer.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “The King is a powerful asset to Britain and the Commonwealth on the world stage and his coronation continues over 1,000 years of history and tradition. I celebrate that and I know that a lot of people in the constituency also celebrate that. It was fantastic to see so many people celebrating with their local community.”
