Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, attends event on how LEGO bricks could inspire the next generation to #BuildTheChange for a better world.
With the start of the COP27 Climate Change Conference, children and adults around the world are becoming more focused on building a better world. LEGO’s #BuildTheChange flagship learning programme is an exciting way to immerse children into sustainability topics and spark interest in construction and energy.
Constructing LEGO structures nurtures and develops a breadth of skills in children such as creative problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, and resilience.
I am very pleased that LEGO has launched free education resources for use in school, with everything a teacher needs to get started running a series of Build the Change sessions. These sessions are developed in collaboration with subject matter experts and aimed at 7–12-year-olds. For example, in the free Biodiversity and Climate Change learning resource, there are nine 45-minute learning through play lesson plans. This is a great opportunity and more information can be found here: https://www.lego.com/en-gb/sustainability/buildthechange/courses
Stephen Metcalfe said: “I have always been a bit of LEGO enthusiast. I am fascinated by the idea of building a wind turbine, energy-efficient school, or entire city, with LEGO bricks.
It is great that there are free learning resources provided to schools via the #BuildTheChange programme and I would encourage parents and teachers alike to take a look.”
