- It reopens with a fully-stocked convenience store and a highly experienced Postmaster.
- Open Monday to Saturday, 9am – 6.30pm, the Post Office will deliver 57 hours of service each week.
Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, joined Corringham’s new Postmaster, Mohasin Pathan, to cut the ribbon at the official re-opening of Corringham’s Post Office on 8 March.
The previous branch closed in February 2023 after the long-serving Postmaster retired. Under the lease requirements, the whole premises had to be emptied.
However, Post Office services have now been restored and the whole layout of the shop has been redesigned, making much better use of available space.
There are now three Post Office counters – two full screen and an open plan counter. Moreover, there is a well-stocked retail area including convenience, household goods, cards and stationery.
Stephen Metcalfe MP said: “For the last year, I have been in regular contact with the Post Office about the importance of restoring services to Corringham. So, it’s great that these discussions have finally come to fruition and we have an excellent new Postmaster, Mohasin. I want to congratulate Mohasin on his big investment into Corringham. The whole premises has been refurbished and it looks fantastic with all the new retail very recently added. The new-look store has breathed fresh life into this shopping area.”
Mohasin Pathan has a wealth of experience, having worked as a Postmaster for the last 10 years. He runs two other Post Offices – one in Green Street, Forest Gate and one in Queens Crescent, Kentish Town. This is his first Post Office in Essex, the county where he lives.
The new Postmaster, Mohasin Pathan, said: “My priority was to get Corringham Post Office open as soon as possible. I knew that the last bank in town was to close, and Lloyds shut a week later. Here you can do business and personal banking on behalf of all the major high street banks. People are delighted that the branch has re-opened. Local businesses and customers have been lovely and really welcoming. Longer opening hours, than the previous branch, make it easy to pop in.
I then reflected on what retail to offer in such a large retail space. I’ve added lots of different types of retail all under one roof. As well as cards and stationery that you expect alongside a Post Office there are drinks and confectionery as well as household goods.”
Mohammed Islam, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted that Mohasin Pathan, a highly experienced Postmaster, has taken on the Post Office in Corringham, restoring a branch in this area and with longer hours. There is a large retail space and Mohasin has made good use of it. There is a wide choice of retail.”
